About Cat\u00f3n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cat\u00f3n Lyles<\/strong>\u00a0is an accomplished and recognized Pacific Northwest artist.\u00a0He has engaged and
enriched his community with his performances as a musician, actor, instructor, collaborator and
youth worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He\u2019s\u00a0been featured in commercials, documentaries and episodic programs both nationally and
internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He also participates in OCFs Oregon Arts Learning Community and the National Guild for
Community Arts Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He is a founding member of the former internationally recognized Northwest Afrikan-American Ballet.
Cat\u00f3n received a Gold Record for co-writing\u00a0You Put Me In A Trance\u00a0for the band\u00a0Nu Shooz\u00a0(1986).
Cat\u00f3n has performed or recorded with many groups and individuals in the Oregon Music Hall of
Fame, the Grammy\u2019s, Native American Music Awards and a Triple Crown winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


As an actor,\u00a0Cat\u00f3n was a cast member, performer, writer and collaborator in the award winning
play\u00a0Note to Self (awarded\u00a0Best Ensemble in a Play\u00a0in 2017\u2019s, Drammy Awards). He was also a cast
member and musician in the groundbreaking play\u00a0The Sounds of Afrolitical Movement\u00a0(a multimedia
performance that premiered at the Portland Playhouse in May 2023).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Cat\u00f3n has been involved with youth work for decades across several organizations including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Sebe Kan Youth Dance Ensemble (previously known as K\u00fak\u00e1t\u00f3n\u00f3n)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • I am M.O.R.E (Resiliency in Rhythm)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Caldera, recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards, where he is the Camp Artistic Director\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Rhythm Traders drum store, where he is a percussion instructor of group and private classes (youth and adult)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
